REVIEWS
Mick – “There is nothing I don’t like about this album. Been a while since I listened to it and it has put me back listening to them this week which is a great thing for me.
Reacharound and Flame are belters, and Rocky Took a Lover. My favourite song is Just Like Mr. Benn – really nice lyrics and a lovely melody throughout. Bad Skin Day is a close second, always a great one when they play live. I also love the slightly funky My First Born for a Song – love the piano throughout and the winding electro beat the whole way through.
Think if I had to I’d say I am not mad on He Said She Said. Still a decent song but my least favourite on the album.
I only really like their first 4 albums and this is the third or fourth choice from that, but very good all the same. Music In Mouth is outstanding and I love Neither Am I and Blue Lights On the Runway.
Great choice and delighted to go back listening to them.”
E.P. – “Good choice Molly. Great flow to that album. Rocky Took a Lover is probably the best on it. I love that three in a row of Bigger Than Me, Bad Skin Day and Natalie.”
Spud – “I’ve been listening to the US version of the album all week on Amazon Music. This morning I had a listen on Spotify (UK/Irl) and was confused to hear Reacharound as track 1 because Rocky Took a Lover is first up in the US release. You might be surprised how much difference it actually makes! Reacharound and Flame are a much better 1-2 than Rocky Took a Lover and Flame, for example. And Eve, The Apple Of My Eye isn’t even on the UK/Irl album!
Anyway, it’s a good album with some great songs. My favourite is probably Flame. I don’t think the album’s sound is different and can hear lots of other bands in various songs:
– Snow Patrol – Rocky Took a Lover and Natalie (the chorus is like Run).
– Talking Heads – My First Born For a Song and especially Bigger Than Me (having these tracks together on the US release makes sense in my opinion).
– He Said She Said is like The Coral x Muse.
I like it, would listen to it again and would definitely like to see them live.”
Sol – “I really enjoyed that album, hadn’t listened to it in full in years and forgot how good they were (I haven’t listened to any recent stuff).
I match Mick with my favorite two songs – Bad Skin Day and Just Like Mr. Benn.
Definitely gonna work through all their old albums. I remember loving one of their lyrics: ‘I’m not over you, can I get back under’.”
