REVIEWS
Mick – “Well Clarkey, I don’t know what to say about that album! The first time I listened to it I didn’t like it at all and couldn’t wait for it to finish. After the second listen it grew on me and by the third I kinda liked it.
I think you may have played me The Good Times Are Killing Me before and I do like that. Not a fan at all of Float On but really like the opener The World at Large and probably my favourite was Bukowski – really cool tune.
It’s an album that if you heard four different songs you would be forgiven for thinking ya were listening to a different band for each. This Devil’s Workday, for example, is a bonkers song!
After the initial ‘no way’ I kinda enjoyed it and I would say the more I listen the more it will grow on me.”
E.P. – “I agree with Mick – very quirky album with some mad shit on it. Some of it is crap, but I did like some tunes.
I actually liked Float On, I thought it was very catchy. I liked Satin in a Coffin and Blame It on the Tetons as well.
Bit of a Violent Femmes feel off the album. Some of his singing reminded me of the Pixies too.”
Sol – “Agree with lads too – the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me. Such a mix.
Your man’s voice reminds me of the crazy bastard from Police Academy in some songs. Again, it’s not a start to finish album for me but definitely got back to the handful I enjoyed.
Top hits were The View, Satin in a Coffin (which reminded me a little of I’m Shipping Up To Boston by Dropkick Murphys), Bukowski andBlame It on the Tetons, which takes the top spot for me.”
Molly – “Yeah, he is a bit like Bobcat from Police Academy! Defo a touch of The Pixies and The Femmes.
Satin in a Coffin is defo my stand out tune.
But the album’s all over the shop. Feel if they had have stuck to a certain idea and followed it throughout, it could have been a better album. It just seems to be thrown together and bit higgledy piggledy.”
Spud – “I pretty much agree with most of what’s been said already. The album grew on me but it’s not a start-to-finish listen for me. I’d rather listen to the odd song here and there.
I think Float On is a great song, and a couple of other favourites are The World at Large and The Good Times Are Killing Me.
Also, only Clarkey could pick an album with a horn intro!”
